Hilights

This year was the best year that I have had at school. This year I won singles for tennis and I got 1st for sprints and long jump. the sporting side of things I will always srive in and will always keep my passion about. also we went up to the top of rueapane on tuesday the 10th december 2013 and it was the best experance of my life. unfortanatly it is my last year and I will allways remember the kids and teaches. I am off to hbhs and will make new friends there but my friend shane is also going so at least I will know one person. and don't forget (this is the only time I will say this) YOLO (you only live once)

Ag day

Wednesday 16th October Te Pahu Schools PTA set up our annual Agricultural Day. Almost everybody had a calf, lamb , or did an alternative challenge. All animals had three normal rounds and one optional. Calfskin had leading, rearing and dairy or beef type. Lambs had leading, rearing and call and follow. Goats had similar courses but very few people led a goat. at the end i came out with a 5th, 4th and 3rd. there was also a group of three for all animals and it is judjed my how well they lead together.

Energy

This term we have being learning about energy sound and how it travles.we found out that sound travles straight but still in waves. over the term whe have been doing experements and wathing vidios. did you know that in order for sound to be in the world there needs to be air. learning about energy has been awesome fun especialy with all of the expererments we have done. this is a vidio of an expererment that we did.

bus warden fun day

last week on friday kayla, lilly, lars, ben and I went to the te awamutu veledrom for being a bus warden. there was lots of games there such as cricket, dodge ball, catch a thief, extream frisby, tug "o" war and a water slide. the day was awesome fun and we all made new friends plus the organiseres put on a free lunch of hamburgers and water with ice. trust me it was well worth going.

ski trip

In term 3 room7 went to the snow. we left school at 0500 hours and arrived at the snow at 0800 hours. we then got out and organised our equpement. we then had time to ski and board. the first time I got on I could not stop so I just fell on my bum. th we had lessons and ski time so when I was going down shane thrw a snow ball and hit me and I fell over andlost both of my skies. then we had to go home. the day was awesome!!!

Karapiro camp

In term 1 room 7 went to Karapiro for a camp. We stayed at rob wadell lodge. When we arrived we got our gear and put it in our rooms. Then we had to meet in the dining hall and get ready to explore the area around the lodge. 

Science fair

over the last five weeks room 7 has beening working on science fair boards. The best four will go to a waikato wide contest. Our bibles in schools teacher Mrs Graham came in to help us with the making of the boards. When we had finished the day had come. My partner and i did not make it to the big one

Kindy reading.

Last week room 7 walked down to the kindy and read to the little kids. I read brown bear brown bear what do you see. If we read books that were to long they would loose there focus.

Air wieghs somthing

Our focus this term is science. In room7 we have been doing expiriments, one of them was was about if air weighs some thing. The first experiment we did was by putting a popped ballon at one end of a make do scale  (a ruler attached to a string) and on the other end a balloon with air in it, it turned out the ballon with air in it was heavier. The second one was an air cannon ( a buckst with glad wrap on the open end and a hole at the other) then we hit the glad wrap and hey presto a cannon and something .We leararnt that matter is anything that takes up space and wieghs something. So if air weighs a lot we were wondering why we are not being flattened. We learned that is because we have pressure and it repels the air pressure around you so the pressure is equal.

We watched this video on cyber safety and how to deal with it.

Dry ice

In week 11 term 1 room 7s bible in school teacher Mrs Graham came in and taught us about dry ice.

She explained how people use dry ice to make music by putting metal on it. She also told

us how dry ice goes strait to a gas rather than to a liquid first. then we got to have a game of ice hockey because the gas has a thin layer of gas under it

Fishy business

On Monday we got to experiment on a fish. First we had to estimate how much it would weigh. Most of us estimated that it would wiegh about 5 kgs but it weighed a good 12 kgs. Then we had to guess how long it was. We all thought that it was 1 meter long but it was 84 cm long. Then we took a fillet out and

had a look at that. Once we had done that we did an experiment on what sort of substance would remove the smell of fish best.

The substances were lemon juice, baking soda, water, vinegar, toothpaste, salt, soap and detergent. All the people in the class thought that vinegar would be the best but detergent won.

 

Silage stacking

In week 8 room 7 went to the Kelly farm to stack tyres on to the big silage stacks.

The stacks were covered by polythene plastic to keep the water off.

We ended up doing it in 2.5 hours rather than 4 hours. we ended up raising alot of money to go towards trips.  :)

 

Pencil portraits

In term one we did a self portrait of ourselfs. We had to use different shades of grey and black to show lines and other things like that. After we did that we had some practice on our eyes.
